Not bad for a Monday.

I'll just make it short and sweet.

Because of the recession and our disability of the magazine to sustain to be in the current form. Management has thoroughly weighed in all possibility to salvage what is left and has finally made the decision.

First movie magazine will no longer be a magazine. From late April or early May, look out for First, as a section in TNP every Thursday.

This news hasn't really been out officially but the plan has already began running through. (hope i don't get in trouble with this post but I'll take the risk, don't think my posts are read by many anyway)

What becomes of the team? Well the editorial team will be moving out to the News Center and as for us art team, our feet will still be planted in SPHM.

What will I be doing? Has you may have noticed my post title, i will be transferred to the online medium, back to my roots where i began in the design line. Have yet to know the fate of my art director and editor.

This sucks...

First of all, thank you for all the birthday wishes i receive physically, from SMS, and Facebook.

24th March is usually pretty much an uneventful day for me. I don't celebrate them. Not that it reminds me of how old I'm getting but simply its just a matter of thinking its a celebratory kind of occasion for me.

This year is kind of nerve-wrecking for me. OK here's the low down with some back story. Remedial Training (RT) is a normality for me as i never could pass my IPPT since ORD. I've always escaped as i was under the radar till a year ago. Most of you guys know that I'm in the publication industry and my monthly peak period is nothing new. A week before the actual deadline, times can be rough and hard on me and i would have to make-up for 2 session and "die-die" must take the next session. Along came the final day, which i had to work an "over niter" on a Friday and only came home the next day noon. If you could connect the dots, i overslept my Sat afternoon session and was automatically a defaulter.

For those who have experience this would know that the 1st time is fine i guess. But this was my 3rd. The 1st was a long story concerning my window period and me taking IPPT during my In-Camp. My 2nd was just plain laziness.

The white letter came. CMPB. NSSC. In uniform. Thank goodness it was my lull time and took leave for that day. So there i am, face-to-face with the officer. I was so darn nervous but all ready to face an ultimate sentencing of DB which i hear floating around if you're a repeat offense.

"Will you accept my punishment or would you like to appeal in court?" says the officer.
I accepted it and lo and behold, a punishment of $100 dollars was placed upon me.

What a relief! Then i remembered. I'm screwed, I only have $81 in my bank. Luckily, I was able to make a delayed payment with the consent of an approving officer. But he was no where to be found! Well he was stuck at a meeting and didn't see him till 1 hour later. My delayed payment was approved and will be back there to make payments this coming Monday.

The rest of the day was pretty much quiet and slowly began my days of being 29.

I've got to wake up my idea and go to these bloody RTs. They are so irritatingly disruptive...

This is what i call a genius marketing strategy. It may be a harmless, nonsensical improv stunt, but the commuters were enjoying the happening and some even joined in (later i found out that they did it every 20 mins throughout the day, so ppl who weren't involved could also just be recruited for the next routine). Not only that, curious passerby would be surprised at the commotion and would whip out their camera phone to take pictures and video, hence, viral marketing was born.

I keep having this reoccurring dreams where I'm in situation of having to drive when i don't know how to. From having to help a friend park his Lotus at a hawker center to escaping from an unexpected car jacker from Pahang or Kuantan, while I'm in it, from, with bullets flying around from his semi-automatic, as i tried to speed off.

Anything before that was a blur but all i could remember was me being in the passenger seat in front when i realized a stranger was driving the car. I gently asked him why he was driving this car without permission. He got fed-up, took out his rather steam-punk kind of pistol from his jacket and threw it to the back seat. He screeched to a halt near a school and went out of the car to prove me that having the authorities find me with a gun would be far worse than me losing the car. I didn't care. I jumped into the driver's side and speed off, almost hitting a kid and his parent as it was after school. Then i realized that the road didn't go too far as the school gate was closed. I turned around and headed straight towards the gunman. He had a semi out in his hand and was about to shoot. Its either to floor it and hit to fucker or die being shot. I almost hit him but i swerved and missed. As i drove off, i could hear gun rattling behind me but unfortunately none hit me or the car.

And that was when i woke up to my moms voice.

That one was rather recent, like a few hours ago.

Freaking weird.

And a partridge in a pear tree...

Signs i'm handling too much work: 1) I sent out an email to all model agency of a fashion shoot and stated that it will be on the 8th of June. I even bold it. 2) Was thinking of bringing some work home. Download it up to my thumb drive. Its 6 o'clock. Shut down. And left without it.

Why do i keep bringing in more work than i can handle?

Oh yeah, the money. How else can i enjoy Japan in October? Sigh...

Vivid dream

Two nights ago, i had this really vivid dream.

I was looking out of the window of my house which faced the city and that the tallest building around was the Swisshotel, very much like the one at City hall. Suddenly i was shocked upon seeing it tilt to the left and came crashing down. Well it tilted, the base gave way and dropped down vertically then continued its course tilting and down till it all hit the ground. Instantaneously, the ground shook and pressure valve underground burst up, causing a steam break-through like a geyser from the ground and through manholes. More geyser pressured up from the ground only to realize that it was coming towards my house! I bolted out of my room, passed the living room and caught a glimpse of mum and dad on the sofa. It was rather weird that i didn't asked them to get the hell out of there. I was out of the front door and down the stairs, taking notice that i was on the 40th floor. As soon as i reached the ground floor, i could see the pressure geysers popping out from the ground approaching. I wondered why it took so long as it would take me a long while to go down 40 stories. There were screams abound and although the event took suddenly, the pressure wasn't that bad when it finally reached me. Probably the distance has already taken its toll and there wasn't much force left. A gapping hole was left as the geyser ceased. I peered into it and saw the pressure pipes. It was no ordinary pipes, as they were all transparent, like they were made of acrylic. What an eventful occurance! I had to tell someone, so i called my friend, Hideaki, on the phone to tell him of what happen. I could hear a shocked and saddened reply from him. He mentioned that his girlfriend was working in the Swisshotel building. I told him she couldn't have been inside as it was Sunday. No one works on Sundays. Then he added, "But she works in one of the shops". I was stunned, not knowing what to say. I assured him that i will update him what i could as soon as i reach to the disaster site.

And that was when i woke up.

Pretty much like a disaster film eh?

Tons of Dvds, Cd and Vinvls on sale. Movie of old and rather new going as low as 9 bucks. I just couldn't resist.

I kept wondering if anyone would know or even bother coming to such an ulu place ( not really ulu but for those not familiar in the east, it might be). But lo and behold, music that was blasting through over-powered the perception and was surprised at the turn-out.

Rumaging through rows of dvds and cds, i managed to grab some to my heart's content. A total of 7 Dvds: Predator (2 dics edition), The Terminal, The Good Son, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Final Cut, The Pianist and Road to Perdition. Each Dvd cost me ard 10 Bucks. Not bad of a deal eh?

Ok, no more Dvd splurge or i won't be able to enjoy Japan in Oct...

Time travel

Time ravel as always fascinated me from young. From the ever famous "Back to the Future" series to non-fictional book about them. What fascinates me is argument of the plausibility of its existence. Such like:

Grandfather Paradox

Time travel is impossible as exemplified by the famous grandfather paradox. Imagine you build a time machine. It is possible for you to travel back in time, meet your grandfather before he produces any children (i.e. your father/mother) and kill him. Thus, you would not have been born and the time machine would not have been built, a paradox. But some arguments that there are a number of possible ways to avoid the paradox, such as the idea that the timeline is fixed and unchangeable, or the idea that the time traveler will end up in a parallel timeline, while the timeline in which the traveler was born continues to exist.

Perhaps the craziest of the time travel paradoxes was cooked up by Robert Heinlein in his classic short story "All You Zombies."

A baby girl is mysteriously dropped off at an orphanage in Cleveland in 1945. "Jane" grows up lonely and dejected, not knowing who her parents are, until one day in 1963 she is strangely attracted to a drifter. She falls in love with him. But just when things are finally looking up for Jane, a series of disasters strike. First, she becomes pregnant by the drifter, who then disappears. Second, during the complicated delivery, doctors find that Jane has both sets of sex organs, and to save her life, they are forced to surgically convert "her" to a "him." Finally, a mysterious stranger kidnaps her baby from the delivery room.

Reeling from these disasters, rejected by society, scorned by fate, "he" becomes a drunkard and drifter. Not only has Jane lost her parents and her lover, but he has lost his only child as well. Years later, in 1970, he stumbles into a lonely bar, called Pop's Place, and spills out his pathetic story to an elderly bartender. The sympathetic bartender offers the drifter the chance to avenge the stranger who left her pregnant and abandoned, on the condition that he join the "time travelers corps." Both of them enter a time machine, and the bartender drops off the drifter in 1963. The drifter is strangely attracted to a young orphan woman, who subsequently becomes pregnant.

The bartender then goes forward 9 months, kidnaps the baby girl from the hospital, and drops off the baby in an orphanage back in 1945. Then the bartender drops off the thoroughly confused drifter in 1985, to enlist in the time travelers corps. The drifter eventually gets his life together, becomes a respected and elderly member of the time travelers corps, and then disguises himself as a bartender and has his most difficult mission: a date with destiny, meeting a certain drifter at Pop's Place in 1970.

The question is: Who is Jane's mother, father, grandfather, grand mother, son, daughter, granddaughter, and grandson? The girl, the drifter, and the bartender, of course, are all the same person. These paradoxes can made your head spin, especially if you try to untangle Jane's twisted parentage. If we drawJane's family tree, we find that all the branches are curled inward back on themselves, as in a circle. We come to the astonishing conclusion that she is her own mother and father! She is an entire family tree unto herself.

Takes quite a reading to fully understand the situation but once it dawns into you, although rather grandeur, it is actually possible.

And if time travel really do exist, wouldn't that mean there are people from the future in our midst?

Wow.

Its ages since i updated.

I seem to have a love/hate relationship with writing. Its rather a chore to start but ends up quite therapeutic while you're at it. So where do i start. Oh ok, i'll do my usual bullet point form. Quick and simple...

Finally closed my June issue of Golf Digest Singapore.
Currently taking long awaiting break. Well its rather short really. Took a Thursday to Monday break but its better than nothing.
Awaiting end of June for another long-ish break (about a week or so) was thinking Australia? or somewhere completely foreign where i can reset. I feel like just taking a map, close my eyes and point to my destination.
Really looking forward to TIFF in September but kinda worried of my funds...
No, I'm not jumping to First. I'm just helping them out, as they would when i need help too.
My ex-creative director finally tendered after much struggle with the working condition. Will miss him alot. All the best to him. Just realize that more people we just dropping out of our inner circle. Its kind of heartbreaking but thats life, people come and go and its up to you if u wanna keep that relationship.
Currently in pre-production of 1 short film and a potential feature film by the LSRS production guys. Pretty excited about them and i hope it goes all the way unlike our "Basket" short film which became stagnant and slowly dissapearing into the mist.
